Retailers & Restaurants in Major Michigan Destination Team Up for Art, Culture, Commerce & Education 12' Tall Fire Breathing Dragon Comes to Downtown Royal Oak

The Royal Oak Association of Retailers (ROAR) and Royal Oak Restaurant Association (RORA) have joined forces for an unprecedented program to bring art, culture and community good will. The free Chalk & Chocolate Art Tour, is set for Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16 in Downtown Royal Oak. On October 14, an Opening Night Celebration Benefit will also take place at Fifth Avenue. This is unlike any event past or present, said ROAR President Gary Baglio, owner of Five15 on Washington. We have a strong group of retail establishments in our downtown and we are energized and determined to do things that make our downtown shine in a positive light, he said. Proprietor Anne Kuffler, owner of Ariana Gallery, one of Royal Oaks long-time retailers at 17 years, shared Baglios sentiments. I am especially pleased we are producing an art oriented event that people of all ages can enjoy. It will encourage people to both participate as artists and to tour the streets of Downtown Royal Oak to discover the chalk art along the sidewalks and at our store fronts.

Two prominent local artists will be featured chalk artists, among others, in Royal Oak. David Zinn is an Ann Arbor-based illustrator and designer who creates inspirational images all ages can enjoy Author of Random, Unprovoked Acts of Temporary Art, David is a graduate of the University of Michigan whose art has been reproduced in England, Scotland, South Korea, Japan and Australia. He is happily anticipating his chalk art debut in Royal Oak Larry Stephens is an Oxford based painter whose work is featured on the sets of Beverly Hills 90210 and the former Detroit 187 TV show. Larry was also commissioned by Mercedes-Benz to do a large painting for their 125th anniversary, as well as a commissioned portrait done in his distinct graffiti style for Erin Cummings of the TV show "Detroit 1-8-7" and the new ABC series "Pan Am".
